Peach Taste on the 6th floor of the new Kunming Guangcheng mall at Beijing Lu and Baiyun Lu is quite fantastic for sushi! Very fresh and very well made. My wife and I have been very impressed and became regulars. The place is also always packed so show up early before 6:00 to make a reservation. Sorry don't have the phone number right now.
If you can read Chinese Qunar, otherwise I think Elong is much better than Ctrip with prices only slightly higher than Qunar and amazing customer service.

Checked Air Asia to BKK around the dates we want and still very expensive just for the Bangkok segment, about 1700 even without the flight back up to Chiang Mai. Was really hoping someone might know a secret to getting cheap discounts on the direct flight to Chiang Mai.
My wife and I would really like to take a trip to Chiang Mai in January but everywhere we look ticket prices are ridiculous for such a short flight. Almost 2000 RMB per person round trip on both English sites like Elong and Chinese sites like Qunar. Any tips for how to find some cheaper tickets for these flights?

Posted byNo worries, its original pre-fire incarnation was my watering hole for many years along with the new one, so I'm a bit nostalgic over that place and what Jason and Joel have going now. I can say for sure that last year over the summer there seemed to be a general rumor across the tourism circuit in Yunnan in places like Dali and Lijiang where everyone was being told that Shangri-La was indeed completely burned down and not to go there. This is what many tourists who did actually come up would say people in other towns had told them. It's too bad these rumors seem to still be persisting; it didn't all burn down and now the reconstruction is essentially finished. The cold in the winter has always kept it a seasonal place though, everything shuts down in the winter. Which is why I've always liked the town so much because it always maintains a quaint atmosphere that Lijiang and Dali don't really have anymore.
