and @yankee, its not just plantation behavior. I know numerous rich Indian, Thai and Chinese families who think their sons having a white girlfriend/wife is a trophy, but their daughters/other women marrying a white guy is tantamount of betraying their entire culture and race.

@Alien, yes I've heard it many, many, many times in China and North America. Pretty common complaint for multi-racial kids whose mom is "white" and dad isn't. Whereas all my friends who had the reverse situation with a white dad and non-white mom usually got comments about how cute and exotic their mother was.

Not sure its a witch hunt... most people couldn't care less where anyone posts online or doesn't post. If someone wants to return on a site like GK over and over again, no harm done as it's an open forum. Personally I just find people's netiquette amusing, particularly the types who make a big show of being offended and leaving and then heading back to repeat the cycle. Regardless of motivation in returning though, welcome back to tomman/MM/lala/wtf.

Random point, but humans do not all digest food the same way. Different groups of people inhabiting different areas of the globe have evolved to extract different nutrients from different sources. In this case, some ethnic populations can be quite healthy with a vegetarian diet, whereas other ethnic groups who have historically had higher protein/dairy diets may sometimes find themselves malnourished from the same veggie diets.

@Matt,

Considering you've changed your name 3 times (tomman, mm, and now this one) and keep saying that you are done with GK, only to then come back with a new user name, there doesn't seem to be much of a conspiracy theory as there is a statement of reality. Moreover, your posts are largely the same, and do not often seem to come out of any logical place (IE, why start a thread about where to meet Chinese women when in the past you have posted at length about living like a king/local with your Chinese girlfriend; why ask about why foreigners eat bad food only to say that you know all the reasons and that all other opinions are subordinate to yours, because you are a chef/teacher/sociologist/psychiatrist/gastronomist/scientist/guru/ who obviously knows better).

@voltaire. "greedy axe of capitalism" is a bit of a misnomer. Most of the damage in China (and the former USSR) was done under state-run initiatives. Providing people in the area with a long-term solution that creates sustainable income without cannabilizing their livelihoods is absolutely a capitalist venture, depending on how you look at it.

I flew out of the old airport and in to the new one this weekend, and there is a stark difference. All the signs are clearly marked in English and Chinese, staff are extremely helpful, everything is laid out logically and in general it is just a pleasure to walk through the gorgeous architecture.

The metro system was a bit less impressive as it actually ran far slower than most cars on the highway next to the track...but I expect things will speed up as the system is broken in. In all fairness, being able to walk down from the airport directly into the metro station is great, and the machines that sell the tickets for the metro system are easy to use. The cars were not bad, but at least for airport line it seemed they skimped on some of the extras (like a durable floor that doesn't show a million stains, handles to hold on to, or signs printed without typos). All in all really amazing to see how far Kunming is reaching.

Slight unrated update here... I was in again and spoke to Sandra's partner, and he agreed there could be a greater selection of items (especially meat/cheese-wise) so he mentioned that several new products would be coming out shortly. So, not to say that dudeson's review was inaccurate (given his description, it's an entirely fair assessment from his experience), but mostly just to report that there should be some things worth going back to try.
