Well, this has been educational for me. I'm glad you got your visa Luke81.
I just got a 1 year multi-entry visa again as an American. But I had no idea the rules changed so much depending on your nationality. Now I can see why the student visas are so popular in Kunming.
I'm confused by this thread. It seems to suggest that you can't get more than a 30 day visa. What nationality is the person asking? As far as I can tell US citizens can still apply for the 1 year, multi-entry 90 day stay visas. That's what I've done for the last 2 years. I also see that French citizens can still get the 1 year.
If something has changed I'd really like to know because I'm applying in Paris in a couple of days. The websites don't show a change but I guess that's no guarantee.
I managed to do that in 2008 and it is difficult but can be done. I know a local realtor who can speak English and has been through the process once (with me). Let me know if you want more info. There is a very useful book that I used (bought via Amazon) called Chinese Real Estate Law (in English). Cost me about $300 sadly but worth every penny I though.
Thanks to everyone for your support and advice. I was on vacation in USA for 2 weeks and I did success in getting this done and stamped by Chinese consulate in Houston.
Now when I return to Kunming in the next month I will try my new paperwork and see if they happen to accept it. I am trying to make a will for my Kunming assets and they required this "proof".
Again, big thanks....even simple things can be quite complex in China...mostly due to the differences in our types of government I suppose.
I'm not in Kunming (or in China) anymore but I love the embroidery art of Yunnan and I wonder if there is any way I could see this film? I would be happy to pay to watch it online, if that is an option. I own several embroidery paintings...the best one is from an "art factory" near Wenshan (so probably not Yi)
Yes thanks a bunch for the article. Too funny since I was just trying to figure out where I'd have to fly to spend a few days tanning and lolling by some water. This is a much cheaper idea and that first pool looks great for sure.
I suppose it will be hard to get a response to this thread also but, like AlexKMG, I'd love to know if this hotel did open. I would like to go there soon but can't find it in any search engines. Help???? I'm guessing it didn't work out but hoping that it did.
I read this book a year ago and was appalled initially to see that it was in fact written by a missionary. (I would never intentionally give a penny to a missionary.) Having said that, I read the first half of the book since he did try to separate the anthropology from the missionary BS. And there were indeed a few interesting observations about the ethnic groups and he had clearly bothered to learn a lot about the languages.
Still, even the first part can't help adding in religious judgments and hypocritical nonsense. People are viewed from the perspective of their willingness to accept a load of you-know-what without becoming physically ill.
I passed my book along to a Christian and still feel guilty for having bought it without paying enough attention to the source/author.
Event: Living Threads — Celebrating Yunnan's Sani Culture
Posted byoops, it was near Weishan that I bought my art piece...not Wenshan.
