Forums > Living in Kunming > Is aborting girls really still so common? I have seen similar situations in my kids classes in kindi and primary, with at least 60-70% boys in the class. But to be fair it seems there are more girls in Yunnan schools as a % than in the north China city we lived previously.
I read somewhere (no idea where) that on average the first child is more likely to be a boy, this alone would help to explain the higher % of boys in China. Then with some parents wanting boys only,,
You can already read on the internet that poorer men in China are already buying relativly cheaper wifes from Laos, Vietnam etc I guess this can only continue.
Imagine Kundu in 20 years,,,
Forums > Living in Kunming > introduction Although Kunming has many benefits including weather, since you are not here yet I recommend you take a look at north Thailand as well. Thailand has a better visa scheme (if you have enough money to meet their criteria) for private business people and as you have mentioned yourself better healthcare.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Huntsman - Fraud?? If it makes you feel any better,,I have heard the Aussie embassy often rejects visa applications the first time round,,"then if people are really keen" they re-apply (read pay the application fee again) and the visa section then looks at the application again,,maybe more seriously the second time around,,,
While Chinese still need visas to travel to most countries,,then I guess this situation will never change.
Embassy Visa Offices in China are real money maker for embassies. Unlike other government departments where the majority of funding comes from Taxes these departments actually generate a lot of cash.
In my experience ringing the ambassadors secretary often works to get things done. It seems the Ambassdor takes messages from their secretary more seriously then a direct call.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Entrepreneur in Kunming? One thing to remember is that there were no private business/businessmen in this country before 1978. When dealing with Chinese customers/suppliers its a good idea to remember that. Private ownership of property is also a new thing in China.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Other doberman owners? Good luck! Make sure she has all her shots, our dog even with all her shots managed to get distemper,,but I guess the shots helped as she did pull through,,normally distemper is a killer.

Kunming police now permitted to carry sidearms
Posted byI saw an armed police on Beimen. He was carrying a pistol with a bullet magazine clip not a revolver.
Kunming opens province's first 'baby refuge'
Posted byQuite a few countries have these "baby hatches". I wonder if the main aim in China is to protect unwanted girls?
