Hi Laotou,

Fruit is already being shipped around the world,,or stored for long times before sale,,it just depends on the type of fruit. Shandong is already doing a lot of exports in apples and pears,,,and in the USA the average time off the tree that the lemon people buy in the shop is 9 months!

Shipping fruit around the world is picking up due to better technologies and faster travel times. I just wonder how much of Chinas fruit (and food in general) will remain competitve in terms of price as rural land prices/transport prices continue to increase.

I remember once the police came to ask us to sign,,they then at the same time asked us to sign for the last year for all the times they should have comeand checked,,but were too lazy to.

It sounds like your police station is not used to laowai and is following the rules,,most likely they will relax at some stage.

I would make one last attempt to get her to get an abortion with you paying all hospital costs, if that doesnt work out then just cut off all contact and make it clear you are not going to pay a cent for anything.

You need to be tough now, having a kid without a husband is not an issue at all, it may be slightly harder to get a Hukou for the kid (but you are talking Baoshan not a larger city), so that wont stop the girl or her family as they think you as a "rich laowai" from having the kid and trying to extort cash for the REST OF YOUR LIFE.

for your home I suggest you look to the standard meat cleaver found in all Chinese kitchens as your best legal and nasty defense option.

The main difference with the PAP and the PLA is that PAP troop deployments can be made faster (less red tape) so they can be sent to areas of need faster.

Also the PAP normally tries not to have many local people in their units (unlike the PLA which draws its recruits from the area) and the PAP units are moved around the country a lot. During a time of unrest (late 80's)the PLA was not so effective in dealing with local protesters, but the PAP cleared the square and streets as ordered.

@Xiefei, I remember about in the late 1990's that Beijing had regulated that public toilets be free and that if you needed to use a toilet that you bars and restaurants had to let you use their toilets even if you were not a customer.

Places like Yunnan implement laws differently. For eg: Tobacco advertising is illegal in China, but in Yunnan you wouldn't know that.

On the radio they said that 'Yunnan was one of the, slightly,a little bit more by a bit, provinces for Aids cases.. But with one of the lowest populations in China and having the most cases maybe they should be a bit more direct about the issue.

when we renovated we took our workmen to B&Q to select materials from their excellent range if samples. Then with that list in hand we went to the construction market near Mingbo bridge and got the same materials at either half or one third of the B&Q price.

It's a good place for window shopping.
