Forums > Living in Kunming > Americans who move to China, only to eat nothing but McDonald's.

Interesting this thread has 240 posts. I've never heard of anyone who eats nothing but Mcdonald's - pretty sure the thread could have ended on the first reply.

Personally I eat there about once a week at lunchtime, paying 19 kuai for a Big Mac combo. It's not great food, but it's at the very least comparable to anything else you can get at a Chinese restaurant for 19 rmb. I used to know a couple who scoffed at anyone who ate at Mcdonald's, but then they went to cheap noodle dives and got la duzi every month. Doesn't make sense to me.

Forums > Living in Kunming > New visa/immigration regulations July 1, 2013

Will Z Visas be much more difficult to get for those who do not have them already? I'm a native English speaker/college graduate, though no teaching experience, wondering if it's likely I will be able to find a position that provides a legal working visa when I return to Kunming later this month.

Although working illegally has worked out for a lot of teachers here, I'm not so sure about the future now that this legislation has gone into effect. After all, this is China, where rules are ignored until all of the sudden they are enforced during a "crackdown."

Forums > Living in Kunming > Ear wax!

Do Chinese not use bulb syringes or something? I went to 3 pharmacies and asked for 注射器 which is what my dictionary translates syringe as, and the employees showed me needles. I bought a needle since the top part can be removed and used as a dropper for olive oil/hydrogen peroxide, but it can't be used to flush out the ear with water due to pressure problems.

Man, my ear has been killing me the last 2 days. 80% deaf in the right ear, constant buzzing and mild pain. Maybe I should go to the hospital and risk the weird stick procedure.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Is there a dog pound in Kunming?

I have a small dog that I'm tired of taking care of. My Chinese ex-girlfriend showed up at my apartment one day with the dog, without telling me ahead of time, and said she found the dog abandoned on the street and decided to adopt it. I put up with this only because she said she would take care of it and clean up its mess. Well, she's gone now and I'm the one who has take care of the dog. I woke up this morning to find pee on the upholstery of my new couch and shit on the floor. Maybe it makes me cruel, but I'm not going to deal with this. I want to either take the dog to a pound, find a new home for it, or if that's not possible in a couple of weeks, euthanize it.

The rent price is so ridiculous, I simply don't understand it. How can even the most successful establishments on the street like Salvador's survive this kind of rent? I think the landlords are screwing themselves in the long run, Wenhua Xiang will become a vacant lot as businesses scramble to find sane rent prices in another area.
