I know you are probably looking for store-bought beer and not retail bar prices, but Brooklyn Pizzeria has perhaps the best selection of micro-brews in town right now.

I think the biggest sticking point for the BCIM Corridor is Myanmar. China can build as many railroads and highways to the border (as they are doing in Ruili now), but until the civil wars are permanently under at least some control, as rejected_goods pointed out, nothing will happen inside Myanmar.
Also, China has been pushing this on India for more than a decade with little or no success. Add to this India's closer relations with the United States and the fact that the Indian army just carried out an 'unannounced military action' inside Burmese territory, and this whole thing looks more and more like a pipe dream.
Beijing is pretty damn good with playing the long game though, so maybe if they just wait long enough...

Passable no-frills Dongbei food including lots of dumplings, tofu, disanxian and other standards. Fair prices too.
A pleasant surprise hiding inconspicuously inside the Second Ring Road. Go for the temple, stay for the lovely forested park and its ample solitude.
Excellent service even when packed and the food is top notch. Great group of owners too.
Had the buffet here recently. A bit expensive but discounts are available for groups. Seafood, including crab, lobster and sushi were all fantastic. European and Chinese dishes were great as well. Beer was included with dinner. Overall, excellent service and food.
Excellent dumplings for omnivores, vegetarians and carnivores. This is a hole in the wall joint with no frills, but the owners are friendly and the dumplings are just right. Five stars if they get higher quality vinegar.
