So far this is simply a conversation, basically about 'what if?'. But I want to interject now that 'naming names' is something we at GoKunming have no way of verifying, and therefore can't support.
Salvador's often has them, as mentioned above, and the fruit stand on Hongshan Dong Lu (虹山东路) next to the Anquan Xincun bus stop (安全新村站) always has imported Mexican avocados.

Passable no-frills Dongbei food including lots of dumplings, tofu, disanxian and other standards. Fair prices too.
A pleasant surprise hiding inconspicuously inside the Second Ring Road. Go for the temple, stay for the lovely forested park and its ample solitude.
Excellent service even when packed and the food is top notch. Great group of owners too.
Had the buffet here recently. A bit expensive but discounts are available for groups. Seafood, including crab, lobster and sushi were all fantastic. European and Chinese dishes were great as well. Beer was included with dinner. Overall, excellent service and food.
Excellent dumplings for omnivores, vegetarians and carnivores. This is a hole in the wall joint with no frills, but the owners are friendly and the dumplings are just right. Five stars if they get higher quality vinegar.

Volunteering in Kunming's forgotten 'urban villages'
Posted byThese places are home to "thousands of immigrants from the countryside". Many of these families have extreme difficulty finding ways to register their kids to attend schools, much less pay for tuition. So no, many of them don't go to class.
As for the sandwiches, that was an introductory activity, what teachers call a 'warmer', to gain trust, establish comfort and make sure the kids come back the next time.
