Forums > Living in Kunming > Changing RMB to Euros

Hi,

I would like to exchange a reasonable sum of Yuan into EUR to take it back home.

Is it possible to ask my China Construction Bank to convert the Yuan in my bank account into EUR and then ask them to wire it to Europe (I have a work permit, contract, etc.)? Or do I need to withdraw the money, then get it exchange myself (where I run into the known difficulties of exchanging money) and then deposit it into my account in EUR?

Is the rate okay when the money is converted (whilst staying in my account) compared to other ways of exchanging a large sum of money?

Are there daily limits for Chinese nationals of how much money can be exchanged (e.g. BoC)?

Thanks!!!

Forums > Living in Kunming > Where to buy moving boxes?

Thanks for the info.

Another colleague also recommended Deppon - a logistics company where you can get moving boxes, too (Debang Logistics (得邦物流 - De bāng wùliú) with multiple locations in Kunming.

It also happens that the moving company I contacted will be in Kunming this weekend. They'll pass by my place for a survey and I am now betting on them to then provide me with the missing packing material ;-)

All well at last... Cheers!

Thanks, Ocean.

I have read somewhere else that the ones at the Post Office might be too small but I'll check out what they got.

In the meantime, a colleague provided the following translation: 搬家纸箱 (Bānjiā zhǐxiāng).

Will visit B&Q and Metro - the ones I saw on Taobao are boxes but not moving boxes with the 'special' folding of the bottom/top.

Cheers, A

Forums > Living in Kunming > Where to buy moving boxes?

Hello,

I'll be leaving Kunming and for this reason I am looking for a place where to buy moving boxes (i.e. the ones that have a folding bottom and top and the 'holes' in the side so that one can get a good handle of the box).

Actually, I am also looking for the Chinese word for these boxes as the translations I got from the Internet don't make sense to Taobao (where I initially wanted to order some boxes).

Appreciate any help,
Cheers!

Forums > Food & Drink > Chinese cooking classes

Hi "English Tutour",

this is great news!!!

We met two weekends ago (in total three people with new interest from Sundancer) but so far there was unfortunately no cooking involved.

I am still really, really interested to finally get strolling over the market with an expert.

I am leaving Kunming for a week starting tomorrow (back next week's Friday night).

Would be great if you could text me (18787480411) your contact details so that I can get in touch with you once I am back.

Will let the other two girls and Sundancer know, too, in case they haven't been following this forum.

Anne
