Hmmm... someone deliberately ruining their own health and those around them while standing next to a sign telling them it's illegal. I think "stupid" is an entirely reasonable word.

I got my marriage certificate today (took half an hour and cost 9RMB!) and plan a celebration later in the year. Thank you all once again for your advice and help in negotiating the hurdles.

@nnoble: It's not the pedestrians on the pavement that are the problem, it's the ones that stand in the middle of the road or nonchalently stroll in front of oncoming cars. As a daily walker and a sometimes driver I see suicidal idiots in all situations. And don't get me started on the moped users...

So pleased to read this thread today, ie it's not just me! Started about 2 weeks ago for me - getting disconnected every minute or two, sometimes even more often. Occassionally I'm on for 20 minutes before disconnect. Mostly when trynig to connect to .COM sites. I thought my ISP were mucking me about, but it seems it's a bigger problem! Really hope things settle down again soon. Thanks for all the background info and the "you are not alone" vibe!

Not the airport staff's fault, perhaps, but the airport planners were apparently warned by locals that the area is prone to regular fog problems long before any building work started. So this will be one of many days of chaos to some.

I think there's a big difference between the vendors who ply their trade for a meagre living eg snack sellers outside schools and park, and the young, middle-class people who sell as a hobby from the back of their large cars, clogging up the roads.

Not relevant? It's totally relevant to your quote, "Pharmaceutical drugs are made from petrochemicals...".
Sorry - your links are all blocked for me. Agree to disagree, OK?

Price is now 100RMB for adults, 70RMB for children.
Some of the animal areas are as far as 10+km from the entrance - you can buy a hop on/off bus ticket for 60RMB per person, but there are also clearly marked walkways for those who are full of energy.

Everything inside is pretty expensive - consider bringing a picnic.

Many of the animals are in large outdoor enclosures. Some are caged. The park calls itself a safari, but this is not a "drive your car amongst the animals" thing. It's more like a decent western zoo.
There are places to handle/be photographed with animals, for a fee. Also, some kids amusements.
The animal show is free, but a waste of time (unless you love watching goats, sheep, pigs, horses etc!!).
Good labelling i English thorughout.

Still worth a visit, especially for the arhat statues. The 11am vegetarian lunch is basic, but still only 10RMB. Free entry.

Prague cafe used to be my favourite cafe in Wenlin area but I went for lunch there today after a few months away and it's really gone downhill (new owners?). The menu was a photocopy, the food was lacklustre and much more expensive than before, the decor was dull and the service so-so. I won't be back there anytime soon.

It's open! And it's free. And its terrific for kids.

The museum is surprisingly interactive (although only 2/3 of the attractions are working) and modern (VR, simulators, touchscreens, etc). Sadly, no English on any of the displays but the fun is in trying to work out how the exhibits work and what they are supposed to be showing. Well worth a visit.
