Forums > Food & Drink > No Smoking at Salvador's? Sounds like a pretty horrible idea to me.
Sure, smoking is bad, and there will always be people who don't want to be around it. But let's be realistic - smoking is here to stay in China, and probably for a very long time. Just because a "ban" is put in place doesn't mean it's going to work.
I would say make some days smoking and some days non-smoking. This sounds like the fairest solution for both parties - if not, simply make a smoking and non-smoking section.
To some of the people who were all for an outright ban of smokers, I have one question: how do you get by in China? Do you ever eat in Chinese restaurants?
Unless Salvador's want to lose business by banning smokers from having a drink or a nice meal at their restaurant and send these people to other businesses, an outright ban just doesn't seem very plausible.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Blocks on Wikipedia - a good thing? The biggest disappointment comes from the fact that the government actually spends money hiring people to enforce this flow of free information.
Granted, wikipedia is at times full of errors and bias, but the great aspect of the site is that it's totally user-driven - which is surprising as the government could actually edit the entries themselves if they were so inclined and spread their own views on events and history.
The firewall only needs a bit of water to put it out - - there are several methods available to circumvent it, but for ease of use and especially in terms of surfing wikipedia I'd recommend anonymouse.org - - there's no need to install confusing proxy server software and search through list after list of proxies.

Kunming air quality ranks number two among Chinese cities
Posted byWow.
I mean it's quite an accomplishment, but to my eyes over the years it seems to have gotten worse rather than better.
What with hundreds of thousands of newer cars over the years, how does this happen? Does that fall under this 2.5 particulate matter?
Did they happen to mention which city had the overall worst air quality in China?
Report: Cafe bomber confesses to bus bombing
Posted byIf this case is like many others in Kunming, it will be quite some time before we hear any solid information regarding the case.
The police have a huge job on their hands now, and are certainly feeling the pressure of having to explain (or attempt to explain) what exactly happened that morning, and why.
I must say I'm really surprised at the lack of attention this has received in the national news. Having a potentially western-targeted attack anywhere in China is huge, and could be a very ominous sign of things to come. Let's all hope it was just a random act of aggression as Lester has pointed out.
Report: Cafe bomber confesses to bus bombing
Posted byThe miracle is that no one else was hurt.
Like most of you, I'm of course skeptical about the police killing two birds with one stone and asking a man with severed legs if he had committed other crimes before dying...but that's the official story and unfortunately there isn't any more information to go on at this time.
Just to clarify, isn't an ammonium nitrate bomb essentially a fertilizer bomb? I may be wrong on this but I think it is...in which case it's doubly surprising nobody else was hurt, as bombs like that are incredibly powerful.
