Bucko, just get over it. I've lived here for the last 2½ year as well. I could afford a taxi anytime I want but the bus is good enough for me... or you could buy a bicycle or a scooter which is a better choice in this traffic.

You still haven't learned how to read Chinese after 3 years? Either you are not trying or you don't want to. I think we all should learn Chinese including the written language if we are to stay in China. The language is not that hard. After 2 years of studies or less you will be able to read a newspaper.

Stop being an annoying laowai... you are probably one of those who just hang out over at the foreigners street feeling like a King in China. Well get over it man...

Depends on what you are looking for. Carrefour, Wall-Mart, Metro and Paul's Shop on Wen Hua Xiang has a Japanese selection. As for Japanese food, a lot of the products are quite similar to Chinese ingredients so just find out what the chinese equivalent is called. If not, Metro is your best choise.

I wouldn't work as a model in this city, they don't pay much, you will never get famous ever, they will not tell you what kind of add they will use your pictures in....

Let me tell you a story that happened about 2 years ago. One of my friends, a black girl from the states, got signed up for a job at a modeling agency. They took a lot of pictures and she got paid about 200 kuai for 3 hours of work which is not too bad. She forgot however to ask what they would use the pictures for... a few weeks later she sees an add in a local newspaper. Under her photo was a line that said "Is your skin too dark?"

She had agreed to use her images in an add for skin whitening products... and in the add there was a retouched picture of her where her skin was completely white and under it they had written "If you want to be more beautiful..."

Terrible but true story... so watch out if you want to do modelling in this city.

You can head over to a pharmacy, some pharmacies has it. Why would you buy protein supplement anyway? In China just eat more, it's cheaper than the supplement anyway. Drink soymilk, eat more beans and meat... that's what I would do :)
