It's difficult to comment on prices, but $5k sounds like a full container to me.

Air Sea Transport Inc. is of Kunming. They delivered everything needed two weeks ago as I prefered to do my own packing. They have yet to supply the Personal Export Licence and assure me that they can obtain that for me, i.e., without my attendance at customs.

There has certainly been a large increase in video surveillence systems in Kunming recently, but I find it hard to believe that they are aimed at foreigners -- I usually wave at them.

I've yet to hear stories about the PSB knocking on people's doors, and I'd better reserve comment on that tactic.

I'm surprised by this new post. There was a similar one last month.

I have been contacted by 'Links' in Shanghai, who quoted 30,000 RMB for 3 sq. meters of boxes shipped door-to-door. Obviously, I'm not shipping furniture. They seemed to be very professional and, I believe, would be prepared to negotiate.

I have also contacted 'Air Sea Transportinc. (sic)' of Kunming www.airsea.com.cn (0871) 3210191 who quoted less than half of 'Links', but were not door-to-door. They collect from my apartment and ship to the Customs depot in Toronto, i.e., your nearest Customs depot, and one collects from there -- which I prefer. They have offices on the west and east coasts of the USA.

Naturally, I'm a little concerned by their low price (as yet to be finalized). I'll be shipping next week and I'll report back as soon as I collect it at the other end.

Greg; imagining your keyboard covered in burrito crumbs doesn't present a good argument for WiFi. It may not be as well proven as second-hand smoke but it's certainly more than just 'hearsay'.

It is not surprising that access to the video and Li's cellmates was not permitted -- that's China. It is easier to demote or fire a prison officer because there are thousands of applicants to fill the positions. Anyway, we know that demoted government officials are re-instated after approximately six months.

Our main concern, now, should be to ensure that adequate compensation be paid to the family.

I have no confidence about a just conclusion to this matter, and I'm not sure if Harvey Chen is being cynical or humorous but I do hope that Chris continues to follow this story (and I'm sure that he will) because it smells of strong fish. Oops, we've lost the video ... and the copy. Mmm, sorry for my cynicism.

Spelunker, with respect, it isn't very wise to make fun of these groups -- they're not children. I.M.H.O. this country has been asking for this kind of activity for some time. Have you talked to anyone (brain-washed Chinese excluded) who were surprised?

I guess that it's an interesting exercise (Googling the maps) but are people really expecting to view a recording from one of the many video cameras in the area?
I should like to learn more about the two farmers killed, and 41 injured police, in Menglian on Saturday, which is becoming an even wider problem.
Finally, is anyone surprised by all this?

Although not a review, permit me to address 'dianjing' and 'Ouyang'.

Surely, it would be better to obtain the visa prior to coming to China. Is it probable that your friend's problem was his and not the school's?

Rating, anything, on this Website without a review is useless ... at best.

My personal experience of KUST is their proverbial dislike of Foreign Experts.

Hello Dima; Many will welcome your arrival as the new manager. I hope that you will provide the cook with some assistance during peak hours. Some will be unhappy with the three-week closure, but you might tell them to visit Dan Di Cafe for a similar menu, if only temporarily.

Hey 'bucko', you must be fair, this restaurant is better than any place on Wen Lin Jie which you rated higher. Expensive? Try Green Lake Hotel. Small portions? Try Mazagran. It's all relative.

Although this is one of my favourite restaurants in Kunming, I find it necessary to warn the management that having a fourth floor extension has taken things one step too far (actually, about 70 steps!).

In my opinion, by extending the business, both the hard working kitchen and waiting staff are unable to maintain the original food quality and level of service.

A recent visit presented us with a luke warm fruit/mutton curry that comprised many pieces of fat and gristle, and a half tandoori chicken that had two legs (?) and not much else -- this dish would satisfy three people last year.
