Come see why we were voted 'Best Hostel' by GoKunming readers five years in a row!
I'm starting to think this is the best Western food in Kunming. They don't have anything as upscale as Sandra's Friday steaks, and the menu is small, but the fluffy, blistered pizza crusts are a small miracle, and the brisket sandwich and Vietnamese chicken salad would be favorites at any small cafe in the states. We took a little while to come around to this conclusion, since a couple of our first visits were marred by too much bad sauce on the pizza and a couple instances of bad service, but the staff seems to be responding well to comments, and everything's been wonderful recently.
The cafe is also a great, quiet place to work in the afternoons with a smoothie or some coffee.
I've had nothing but good experiences at Lost Garden.
The owners are extremely considerate and nice people and clearly try very hard to make the experience of the guest their first priority.
A few isolated incidents are not a good reflection of the restaurant or the hostel. This place is awesome and will continue to be so.
I know it sounds like someone from the restaurant wrote this but that's not true. I just don't write reviews unless the character of my favorite establishments are attacked.
Poor service, certainly. Exagerated ego, probably.
Been there 3 times, never had a good time with the service. Tonight, was served by an extremely sour, grumpy immature and unhelpful waitress. When entering was told that we couldn't sit on the rooftop because everything is broken upstairs and it was too windy for candles. When going upstairs to show my friend the rooftop, I found that this was far from the case, and there was hardly a breath of wind. The waitress also later brought her friends to the rooftop, giving them the service she felt we did not deserve. We were also rushed when making our food order at 8pm, and told that the kitchen would soon close.
She also sulked and complained when there was a few drops of water on one of the plates she was clearing, even though we provided help with clearing the table. When asking her what the matter was, she ignored us, only to later come back 5 minutes later with a rant that she yelled at us.
We won't be back until the service improves.
PS- Get some boxes for leftovers instead of the shitty plastic bags that you use.
Today I ate here for the Sunday morning brunch. I can say without a doubt it was by far the best breakfast I have had in Kunming. I will definitely be returning here every sunday.
