Cacao Mexican Restaurant (Defunct) • 4/F, D2, Block B, Fortune Center, Beichen

Mexican-owned and managed, Cacao is the first restaurant in Kunming offering the delicious flavors of Mexico in an elegant environment.

Cacao provides guests with a complete Mexican dining experience beginning with starters such as guacamole and tortilla chips or ceviche, followed by main courses including tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas and a wide selection of meat and seafood dishes. After your meal, try one of our signature Mexican desserts.

In addition to our delicious Mexican cuisine, we also have a full-service bar featuring fine wines and cocktails from Mexico and around the world.

Our sunny rooftop terrace is one of the best places to enjoy Kunming's blue skies while enjoying a meal or sipping on a margarita or cold beer with friends or colleagues. ¡Salud!

Was very impressed by Saturday night's joint party with the Irish pub. Great music and well-prepared food. Hope these sort of cooperative efforts continue.

For the amount you pay you would expect either big portions or something exceptionally delicious. Dont expect either at Cacao.

This is an overpriced mexican joint delivering B level food to chinese clients with big wallets. The atmosphere feels like a gourmet restaurant and the porch is beautiful, just dont show up expecting anything worthwhile on your plate.

I heard the reopened place was under local management now. It's not.

Food is still great. Atmosphere is one of the nicest in Kunming. New staff so the service will soon get better. The owners are very nice and the newest manager knows all about New Mexican Cuisine so I'm hoping some of the northern Mexican influence ends up on the menu some day! Five stars once their servers have time to be trained.
Chips and Salsa would be a nice addition as well.

We went for their re-opening after the renovations. The place looks great and the food was delicious. We had the nachos, which were great, an enormous plate piled up with jalapenos, beef, cheese and lots of other tastiness. We also had the pork dish that was on offer and that didn't disappoint either. The service was very friendly and welcoming. The only problem we had was when we tried to order coffee, they didn't know what a macchiato was even though it's on the menu and brought us the wrong thing twice. Lots of sugar added and not very good coffee. However, I would just put this town to staff training and don't see it as a big issue. In fact they were kind enough to take the coffee off the bill for us. Will definitely be back!
