Salvador's is Kunming's premier coffee house and offers a wide selection of homemade ice creams, fresh juices and western dishes. Salvador's is also home of the best 4-hour happy hour in town.
Never gotten sick once at Sals. Their food is TexMex, so yeah, not authentic Mexican food, but pretty authentic as TexMex goes. Burrito wrap has improved a lot. Like the draft beer option now.
If you haven't had dairy products in a while, and do eat here, best forgo the sour cream. Nothing wrong with it, in fact it's the best sour cream in Kunming, but if you've eaten Chinese for month or months with no dairy intake, your system will react to sour cream or probably any liquid dairy product not so well. Maybe that's what happened with nailer and tallamerican.
At nailer and tallamerican, I'm sorry to hear about your recent experiences. We wash everything with purified water and make all of our food fresh daily from whole ingredients in order to avoid any problems. We will review our procedures to assure that we continue to provide the safest and healthiest menu options possible. I hope you'll give us another try and I'd be happy to buy you a coffee if you are around any morning.
@GoKunming, it would be nice if there was a zero star option for reviews so that business owners can contribute without having to rate ourselves. I kind of feel like a d-bag giving myself stars 1-5. For some reason I settled on 4 as the least douchey ;).
@tallamerican, exactly what happened to me. i think its the beans because i had the same problem a few months from the mexican breakfast.
@nailer is being unfairly dismissed: they are certainly fallible. At one point they were well managed and the only game in town, and their outdoor bar had an interesting social vibe. Recently, none of these is the case (was given a bad bill to the tune of ~300% - no managers present and a subsequent complaint resulted in a less than ideal outcome, many more places are now open, and the outdoor bar is closed). Unless you are specifically seeking faux-Americana (often far better examples elsewhere) or two degrees removed faux-Mexicana, there's little reason to go there. How come French Cafe can serve a great sandwich for 24元 but Sals requires 50元 for a pretend-exoticized nibble? Certainly the business will continue, but the hey-dey is clearly gone. Romaniticizing the past aint gonna help. E-waste recycling by shipping (non carbon neutral) junk across the country? Puh-lease. Garbage processing people here recycle anyway! I applaud the ethical stance of one of the managers, but the place has frankly lost its mojo.
Ain't no flies on Salvador's.
