According to Xinhua news, Myanmar and China have agreed to co-ordinate the opening of the Ruili-Muse border gate as an international border gate to allow Chinese, Myanmar and third party foreigners with valid visas to pass through the border without the need for a permit.

This new system should start in October and will be great news for Yunnan residents needing to do a border run or to travel overland from Kunming to Mandalay, Yangon etc. There is thus no need to buy a package tour anymore.
