I am looking for a place in Kunming where I could buy camping stove fuel, ideally white gas.

Never seen white gas for sale, but most camping shops carry Korean, Japanese and Israeli-made compressed gas canisters that are usually a mixture of propane and butane. They don't seem to use the same type of fitting that I've seen on American canister-style stoves, though. So if you buy a stove you might end up with one that doesn't work back home.

Best to get the kind where the gas runs through a hose to the stove because the high altitudes in NW Yunnan can mess with the stove and they work better (from my memory) flipped upside down and kept above the level of the flame.

does anyone know if now, in 2013, we can get compressed fuel for something like an MSR micro-rocket? i also have an old whisperlite international which should be able to burn anything, but i would rather use an easy threaded cannister.
