Just wondering if the ornithologists amongst us may be able to shed some light on the situation.
If you visit Green Lake in the day you'll find the place awash with vociferous gulls (and bread sellers).
Come back at 5/6 o'clock and there won't be a gull to be found.
Being of the Larus Genus these birds wont perch in trees. Usually gulls will perch on cliffs or on the water on an evening. However, there's not any cliffs around the lake and there is no gulls on the water.
Where is it that they go at night? Anyone know?
According to the local news they go and spend their nights around Dianchi where the majority of the gulls are.
@Yuantongsi
You've solved that conundrum.
Thanks.
they all die each night and new gulls emerge from eggs each morning. that's why you mostly see the younger birds before lunch. 24 hour life-cycle.
They go on a gulls night out
@Yankee "gulls night out" very good!
Gulls will be arriving in Kunming in 3 days. Currenty spotted in Zhaotong. I'm not in Spring City, but kind souls please welcome them with fresh bread. They came a long way. Throughout their journey, many of our avian friends thought about us in the little head of theirs.
Last year the gulls were squawking a lot about the loss of Kundu.
There is a fantastic video of the gulls passing through the mountains in Zhaotong. Catch it if you can.
I saw it and it is amazing the length they're willing to fly to avoid the Russian winters.
