Exhibition: Alphonse Mucha

Description

“穆夏”新艺术运动先锋
A special exhibition of well-known Czech Art Nouveau painter Alphonse Mucha kicked off Wednesday in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The exhibition, "Mucha: Pioneer of Art Nouveau," is held in the Yunnan Provincial Museum, which exhibits 166 works designed or created by Mucha, including posters, advertisement designs, book illustrations, photos, clothes, jewellery, glass and ceramic works.

Alfons Maria Mucha (24 July 1860 – 14 July 1939) known in English and French as Alphonse Mucha, was a Czech painter, illustrator and graphic artist, living in Paris during the Art Nouveau period, best known for his distinctly stylized and decorative theatrical posters of Sarah Bernhardt. He produced illustrations, advertisements, decorative panels, and designs, which became among the best-known images of the period.

Helena Koenigsmarkova, director of the Czech Republic Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, said the selected works from the museum represented the main highlights of Mucha's production.
