Friday: Couchsurfing and live music at Moondog
Friday night beginning at 9 Moondog will host a meeting of Kunming Couchsurfers, with live music provided by Xiao Zhao. Beerlao and Tsingtao will be on special for 14 and 10 yuan, respectively.

Friday: Kaysar and company at Camel Bar
Uighur musician Kaysar is back in town and will perform his blend of jazz, bossanova and other styles with friends at Camel Bar Friday night at 10, followed by DJ Shuang Ma. Entry is free.

Friday: DJ Monkey King at Ganesh
Ganesh Bar & Restaurant has recently undergone an ownership change and is preparing to close for renovations. Before that happens the old Ganesh will have one more blowout with DJ Monkey King supplying funkyjazzfrobeats beginning at 9 with selected drink specials. Entry is free.

Friday: Back-to-school bash at The Mask
Professor DJ Kris returns with his annual Back to School party, this year at The Mask. Party all night with Kris and special musical guests starting at 11. Drink specials include 5 tequila shots for 50 yuan and vodka Red Bulls for 20 yuan. Don't forget to wear your best school clothes!

Saturday & Sunday: 500KM City Music Festival
Saturday and Sunday from 5:30 to 11:30pm, the 500KM City Music Festival will be held at the World Horticultural Expo Garden. Headliners include Cui Jian (崔健), Xie Tianxiao (谢天笑), Tan Weiwei (谭维维) and Shanren Band (山人乐队) – for schedule and playing times, check out the comments section here. Tickets are 120 yuan per day or 180 yuan for both days and are on sale at Chapter One

Saturday: TESOL course open house at Aurora Cultural Bridge
From 9:30 to 11:30am, Aurora Cultural Bridge will hold an in-class TESOL open house. Interested parties can meet Aurora's chief academic director to learn more about the course and what it covers.

Saturday: Slice of Heaven birthday party and wine bar opening
Slice of Heaven will celebrate its first birthday and its new wine bar all day Saturday. There will be live music plus free birthday cake and Phil's famous barbecued sausages will be sold fresh off the grill outside. Imported wines will be on special starting at 10 yuan per glass. Congratulations to Barbara and Yan Bin!

Saturday: Magic The Gathering arrives at Game Café
Magic: The Gathering's new edition has arrived at Game Café and anyone who wants to play is welcome to stop by between 2 and 6pm Saturday. The cards are in Chinese – English reference sheets are available for those who need them.

Saturday: Exhibition opening at TCG Nordica
TCG Nordica will host an exhibition opening for 943 Studio resident artist Ching Ching Cheng (郑青青) of Taiwan on Saturday beginning at 8pm. Entry is free.

Saturday: Foosball competition at Moondog
Saturday night beginning at 9:30 Moondog will host a foosball competition with a bottle of imported red wine for the winning team. Relax and check out some live music while waiting for your turn to play. Entry is free.

Saturday: Chillout party at The Mask
To relieve the anticipated hangovers from Friday's Back to School party, DJ Lao Chris will play a chillout set at The Mask on Saturday night beginning at 9:30. Bloody marys will be on special for 25 yuan. It will also be a "Who ate all the pies?" birthday bash for Liverpudlian bon vivant vis-à-vis his fizzy lagers – Dave. Entry is free... 'appy birfday, innit.

Saturday: Zero at The Hump Bar
The Hump Bar will host a show by three-piece band Zero - featuring Lao Zhou, CJ and Nie Zhi. First drinks from the new cocktail menu are on special for half price. Teachers get half off gin & tonic, whiskey and tequila all night. Music starts at 9:30, entry is free.
