Spring Festival is upon us and many businesses around town will be closed for at least a few days. What are those of us spending the holiday in Kunming to do?
It turns out that there is a fair amount to do this year, including special dinners, mini golf, a stay at an organic farm, little people performances, clubbing, a jiaozi-making class, and live music.
Here is a list of some popular establishments and whether they will be open, holding special hours, or on vacation. Events are also included.
Open
Chapter One will be open as usual and will be offering free jiaozi (dumplings) on Saturday night with an opportunity for participants to learn how to make their own jiaozi.
Aomai's Kitchen's two locations at the Aocheng Mall and the Zhengyi Mall will be open as usual. The Zhengyi location will be holding a grand opening party today and tomorrow starting at 8:30pm with discounted food, two-for-one drinks, and live music.
The Hump Bar will be open as usual with free live music on Saturday night by Tommy Nitro & the Bastards, starting at 11pm. Free jiaozi and hamburgers will also be available.
Uprock will be holding a party with DJ Kris on Friday (10 yuan entry) and a New Year's Eve party on Saturday starting at 10pm with DJs Shonny, Maxi, and Yan.
Speakeasy Bar will be open over the weekend with a joint Spring Festival and Valentine's Day party on both Saturday and Sunday. The events will include free jiaozi, cocktail specials, and a marathon funk session with DJ QY.
Haobao Organic Farm will be open as usual for dining and overnight stays.
Hello! Haigeng Minigolf Park will be open as usual.
The Dwarf Empire will be open and holding two daily performances at 10:30am and 3:30pm.
Paul's Shop will be open as usual over the holiday.
Zone Choice Restaurant will have a special joint New Year's and Valentine's Day dinner with western and Chinese food, wine, and other activities. Call 0871-3203777 for pricing and reservations.
Special hours
Sandra's will be open as usual over the weekend and will have a Valentine's Day candlelight dinner on Sunday. Call 15825267010 for reservations. It will be closed Monday, February 15 through February 18.
Vintage Café will be open as usual, except on the Sunday the 14th, when it will open at 4pm.
Prague Café closed on Saturday, February 13 and open from 10am to 10pm from the 11th to the 21st
Taking a break
Salvador's Coffee House will be closed February 12 through 18.
The Box will be closed February 13 through 18.
Ganesh Bar & Restaurant will be closed from February 12 through 18.
Chicago Coffee will be closed February 13 through 19.
Moonlight Corner's Expo Gardens and Green Lake locations will be closed February 14 through 16.
Lazy Bones delivery and restaurant will be closed February 10 through 26.
In Dali
Bird Bar will celebrate the confluence of Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day with an all-red costume party on Sunday the 14th with DJs Yan and Maxi plus VJs M-LAOX and Song.

Just as a point of clarification- the Prague Cafe in the north is now closed and will be until the 21st. Samoana, Wicker Basket, and Silver Spoon in Beichen will also remain closed through the holiday.
