Forums > Food & Drink > Where to buy green tea?

You're welcome, hope you find it.

The most common flower teas here so far as I have seen are chrysanthemum 菊花茶 and rose 红玫瑰。 You can also buy packets of dried lemon slices.

Lots of other herbal teas can be made from items found in the TCM pharmacies.

There are two wholesale tea markets here, one north and one south. The most convenient one if you live in the center of Kunming is the north one. Here's the name and address for taxi purposes.

昆明茶叶批发市场
金实路金实小区南门

It's near 二环北路 and the intersection of 金卖路

I usually ride bus#25, but several others go there, depending on your starting point. (Check Baidu Maps.)

But you don't need to go to a wholesale market for Hibiscus tea, which isn't really even tea after all. Any Walmart store will have it as well as many of the small hole-in-the wall tea shops. Most carry a few flower teas and herbal teas (albeit not a large selection.)

Hibiscus tea is 芙蓉茶/fúróng chá, in case you want to write it out.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Must register new passport within 10 days

Just a follow up:

This year I got one of the new 10-year visas as well as a new passport (USA.) Took it to the entry/exit bureau 昆明市公安局出入境接待大厅 on Tuodong Road across from Kunming Museum this morning to register it. 地址拓东路118

The main officer on duty told me it was not necessary. Since I had already registered my new passport and visa information at my local Paichusuo 李树头派出所 within 24 hours of arrival, nothing else needed to be done.

He explained that even though my new visa has a duration of each stay of 60 days, it could be extended to 90 days if I brought in my paperwork one week in advance of my "leave-by" date.

I was not sure whether this would cancel the visa or not, as "extensions" sometimes do. He said it wouldn't.

Our conversation was in Chinese, and none of the new regulations were available in writing, so I could have parts of it wrong.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Diamox or Pepper Spray.

I conducted a big hunt for generic Diamox two years ago in Kunming without success.

Visited several large pharmacies and general hospitals, public and private, armed with the proper Chinese names and descriptions of use.

Even visited two specialty eye hospitals, thinking they might get more glaucoma patients than the general hospitals.

That assumption was correct, but they informed me they now used various drops instead of Diamox (acetazolamide) tablets in treatment. Acetazolamide is considered outmoded.

Gave up and brought some back from the US instead.

>>"does anybody know how these trash pickers are called in chinese?"

It's 收废品 for the people who ride around on the 3-wheel bikes 三轮车 and collect broken appliances. I'm not sure of the term for the smaller-scale "dumpster divers."

The CNAC exhibit, which is on display now, February 2009, is extremely intersting and well done. Worth a trip. The museum charges no admission and the Number 1 Kunming bus goes there.
