Travelling by Train from Dali to Li Jiang used to be the most fun, social and comfortable way to go.
I recently did the trip to notice that due to the recent minor earth quake (03 03 2013) near Dali the train tracks have been damaged or at least are being check thoroughly !!
That brings the journey time up to over fours hours against three and a half for the buses !
Used to be two hours
Knowing that you have to go to Xiaguan to catch the train and that the new railway station in Li Jiang is way out of town.
It is good to know that if you can actually buy your train tickets from the railway outlets offices in town
you have to go to the train station to get them refunded or exchanged.
Hem in Li Jiang the new railway station is way out of town.
I isn't China's way of making business becoming user friendly every day ??
Cheers

@tashyi, you are so right. China has been so late in developing there airports and now upgraded rail stations that to have the space to fill present and future needs they are forced to locate often times very far away from the center of the city. Wuhan, Liuzhou, Nanning, Beihai, Dali, Lijiang, and now even Kunming the airport is far away from city itself. I think the new high speed rail station in Kunming will be far south of the city center. Does anyone know if present subway lines being worked on will connect to the new rail station?
