Visa renewal Question

Acton (5 posts) • 0

This thread could just as easily be moved to the Travel forum, but I thought more people would see it here.

Can anyone with recent experience tell us about L visa extension in Kunming?

1. How many days do you get, 30? Dated from application or from expiry?

2. Do you need to bring anything beside your passport, money, and address in China? Anything Else?

I have seen contradictory info online.

Why don't you ask the PSB at Tudong Rd.? They handle all the visas.

this is the latest visa info. it comes straight from the horse's mouth.

no more visas are required. you can come and go as you please.

it was decided that all the bureaucracy was too annoying, cumbersome, confusing, frustrating, and petty.

ps. it's a joke.

Those two threads don't answer this question really, as far as I can see.

I searched the forums here before posting and found nothing recent.

I am currently visiting Yunnan and trying to learn everything I can about the place, before considering living or working here.

Thanks.

to OP
q1. 30 days from date of application. But if you leave it too close to the expiry date, they may reject the application. This is a problem, as it used to take only 5 days to process a visa application.

Last year one of the guys got an extension in Dali, and I think it only took 2 days. But this was before the changes, the changes that now require up to 15 days to get some visas.

One of the reasons it is hard to get a definitive answer, even from official sites, is the lack of any consistent application of the policy.

I would do what Yankee suggests, but go and ask about two weeks before expiry, and ask a very specific question like, "what is the last day that I can make my application for a visa extension". It might seem dumb, but you really need to be that specific.
And at the same time, ask them what documents etc. you need to provide.

Sorry I can't be any more specific, or helpful.
