great to read a novel set in china found it a much better read than all the other nonsense on the shelves of bookshops in china cheers chris look forward to your next book
Well done! thanks for the interesting story. I always love the photos from your journeys and wished there had been a few more. But hey —I have deep admiration for your cycling skills and effort in completing this challenging endeavor! I think one thing is missing in detail here, though: How about a little insight into how the celebration party in Old Dali went upon your arrival?
I just been there one time, and that time I were a little girl, but in my impress, there is a good place, people in there are very friendly.I like the Yi peoples' culture in there,I think it is very nature.I want to go there again!
pedestrians seems to be an after thought here. Traffic death statistics don't even count in pedestrians most of the time, only people killed in auto collisions.
my wife posted the pic above of lots of people of dongfeng and it got deleted as inappropriate content - WTF? perhaps they thought it resembled a scene from later in same decade a bit further north-east?
Just wondering if anyone can list to/for us the different societies, NGOs, counseling companies, marriage agencies, gov depts, legal services that are helping to prepare couples for marriage, before they sign the dotted lines for divorces and after they are divorced and apparently the victims of the separation
An interesting read. I first came to Kunming in mid-2009 and by then the changes were already made. I actually live just off xue fu lu and everytime I'm in a car or taxi (except late at night) we have to go the long way round starting on yi er yi, passing by hongshan bei lu and finally onto xue fu lu. In the reverse direction it's a straight route direct to yi er yi that takes all of 5-6 minutes outside or rush hour; in the original direction going back home it takes about double that. Good for taxi drivers (they get more money!), good for bus patronage but a little annoying for the average commuter affected by this everyday. Anyway, nothing wrong with it, it's just the way it is now - i never realized it used to be different before!

发布者Very close to my home from there,I like the mixian in there, and the Guandu baba alos very good,so it is worth to try!
Car-focused development neglecting pedestrians and cyclists
发布者pedestrians seems to be an after thought here. Traffic death statistics don't even count in pedestrians most of the time, only people killed in auto collisions.
Video: Kunming driver crosses pedestrian bridge
发布者Yes, why was he not given a token ticket by the cops. Are traffic laws in China really so valueless?
Snapshot: Kunming in the 1980s
发布者I meant "on Dongfeng Lu".

Divorce rates rising among young couples in Kunming
发布者Just wondering if anyone can list to/for us the different societies, NGOs, counseling companies, marriage agencies, gov depts, legal services that are helping to prepare couples for marriage, before they sign the dotted lines for divorces and after they are divorced and apparently the victims of the separation
Snapshot: Kunming in the 1980s
发布者Seems those flying white rats in Cuihu Gongyuan were already around at that time.
Snapshot: Kunming in the 1980s
发布者I'm a 80's,it's all about my memories.

Major Kunming traffic arteries converted to one-way roads
