    • Yunnan spirulina tainted with lead

So why don't they test the products at the source, or at least the lake water? I guess speculating is more fun, not to mention safer for the reporters anyways.

    • Kunming's reservoirs, rivers drying up

The rainy season usually doesn't start until about July or August.

There were a couple of days we ran out of water in the afternoon/evening this month, but it hasn't happened since. I live near Yunnan Yingxia on Chuanjin Lu.

The management said Kunming only has about 50% of the water it needs. I've heard as low as 30%.

    • Kunming launches forum site for foreigners

The forum looks nice, but could the topics aren't well organised. The main site definitely needs a more organised layout.

Overall the English isn't too bad, but there are some articles that could use an editor. Any reason why you just don't hire an editor?

    • American conservative group makes inroads into China's classrooms

I don't think high schools and universities are going to have a week long session of role-playing. It will be just another pamphlet given to students along with the current material, and then likely never be discussed in class beyond a few minutes.

Besides that, discussing family values in high school and college is a wee bit late. Heck, in my rural conservative hometown we started studying sex education in 4th grade.

Another point is that the English should probably be "addicted to" and not "mentally dependent on"

    • Forums > Living in Kunming > US Consulate Visit to Kunming

I think the website is for making an appointment in Chengdu. For Kunming I believe you have to email them:

A consular officer from the United States Consulate in Chengdu will be in Kunming, and will be able to provide limited consular services, on Friday, June 22, 2012. There are a limited number of appointment slots for this visit. You must email AmCitChengdu@state.gov; please include your full name and what service you require.

There are two small Schools in the north that are 90% Korean students. One is Korean International School in Kunming(KISK), and the other is Kunming Grace International School(KGIS).

      KGIS contact:
      phone: 0871-588-6823

      email: kgis2007@naver.com

KISK office(not sure if it's the main office): 431-6005

I go to both at least a couple times a week, so if you need more help contacting them just ask.

Generally the best time is spring or early summer. The rainy season is from about July to October. Winter isn't too cold, but many places don't have heating.

    • Kunming > Wicker Basket
      馨香烤屋

Excellent salad bar. Hamburgers are usually ok. The fancier dishes were a little lacking.

Giving it a 4 stars for the salad bar. If you were going there for "fine dining" then probably best to go somewhere else.

The store also has some nice imported food(though obviously Metro is cheaper for some things). The freshly baked goods are nice too.

    • Kunming > Prague Café
      布拉格咖啡馆

Seems to be pretty hit or miss. First time I went there the pizza and hamburgers were great. 2nd time the pizza was terrible, and the hamburger was ok. 3rd time the pizza was ok, but people were smoking inside by the time we left. Guess the no smoking policy is not enforced.

Not bad. Pretty much what you would expect, but expensive for China.

Expensive, but decent bread. Other places are better, but not bad if you're in a hurry.

    • Kunming > Papa John's Pizza
      棒!约翰比萨

The pizza was ok, but not nearly as good as Papa John's in Iowa.

Now everything else was terrible. The worst was the pasta dish. We ordered a pasta dish with shrimp, but the shrimp was still cold inside. We sent it back, and the 2nd time the noodles were nuked dry, and the shrimp was raw. I guess they know how to turn on the microwave at least. We gave up after that.
