This restaurant is totally overwhelmed whenever the 4th floor is opened ... especially at weekends.
The kitchen is too small, and the kitchen staff too inexperienced. As others have said, it isn't difficult to learn that an 'appetizer' is a 'starter' and should be served before the main course.
To explain that the kitchen is "Too busy" should mean. 'CLOSE THE TOP FLOOR!'
The owner must recruit more staff from India, and spend more time at the restaurant (He hasn't been here here for three months).

We got one main dish before the starters so when the starters came the main dish was cold. Altough after poring salt on the chicken tikka masala it was not that bad.

I am a great lover of Indian food, so it is with a heavy heart that I see people here rate this place. In short, the food is very bad. To sell it as "authentic Indian cuisine" is poor.
Last time I went I wrote a note offering to teach the chefs some recipes that I know are very good. I saw the staff throw my note in a bin. Not cool.

I like this place and feel the service over all is good. There have been those moments that seem to happen in China here and there, but we are not unhappy with the food and atmosphere overall.
The owner is always nice to my wife and I and polite and helpful. I have read people complain about the service but I have been n China for seven years and can assure you that it is not as impersonal or rude as some people here suggest.
Has it been slow sometimes, even when the place seems empty? Yea. And we were not happy, but we simply speak to the boss or the younger assistants and things arrive, but those times have been few.
A good place.

Never again;
Food arrived late and cold.
Chicken Korma was awful, the 'chicken' had barely any meat on it and was mostly the chewy inedible joints and tendons, some of which still had skin attached. The sauce was also a kind of luminous yellow, which is a first, and i've had many korma's.
Potato and Broccoli came in barely any sauce and was cold.
Our Naan's arrived after we'd finished our main dishes and were dry, floury and bland. They were supposed to be garlic flavored but we couldn't taste any garlic at all, only oil which they'd drizzled over the top.
The waitress tried to take our salad before we'd finished and hissed at us when we told her to leave it.
There was Indian pop music blaring out way too loudly, playing a song which was stuck on repeat. They ignored our request to turn it down.
The icing on the cake though, was that within half an hour of eating there, my girlfriend and i both had to run to the toilet and spent a good part of the rest of the afternoon shatting ourselves.
I miss Ganesh's Indian food, cos this place blows.

This place really swings from excellent food and great service to crap food and worse service.
I have noticed it depends on if the owner is there. At least the best experience was when he was there.
I do like Indian food but am reluctant to go back.

I won't go there again. The yoghurt is tasty and the curries are usually ok (they seem to vary in quality depending on the day and time). What really annoys me is the fact that they can't comprehend that I order dishes to eat TOGETHER... if my curry arrives 30 minutes after all the other dishes it's not really acceptable. Then again, neither is the 1 hour wait for the rest of the food or the incorrect dishes being sent. By the way, why can't I sit on the 3rd floor until both of the other floors are packed full? Has it never occurred to them that I might want a quiet meal and, after all, I am paying for it!

I cant say anything either good or bad about the waitresses, never had to wait too long for food and have not been treated badly.
But the food is great, and the portions may look small but then again you get very full and i dont think they would have to be bigger.
Great place.

What's with the waitresses?! We had a bunch of young people from various countries sitting at the table, perhaps they thought we couldn't understand them, but they said;
"I'm just going to put these drinks on the table, I don't care if it's yours or not."
Obviously they got embarrassed once they realised we understood them.
Also, they looked very angry the whole time, and never smiled. In fact, she scowled at me for some reason when I asked if the dish was spicy or not.
We wanted to sit on the third floor because it was more comfortable, but they refused us, and told us
"We won't serve you if you sit here"
Ooooook then...
Good food but wish the portions were a decent size.
Would probably go back once the waitresses are more pleasant.

Despite its flaws, the best Indian in Kunming.
For meat dishes, stick with the beef – not very "authentic" to some, but the quality of the chicken and mutton are variable. I recommend beef vindaloo or beef khadi.
Aloo gobi is a good choice from the veg dishes.

i've recently rediscovered this place. it's a little hit and miss, but i have to say that with a little experimentation, you can find some quality food here. while not perfect, the vindaloo is the best i've had.

Went with 5 people to compare Indian restaurants. The lamb roganjosh was interesting while the chicken tikka and the yellow dahl were both well done. But the chicken khorma, mutter mushroom, the black bean dahl and spicy chicken mushroom soup were all bland and not worth finishing. Plus the tea came at the end of the meal. Substituting hotness for complexity of flavor does not a good restaurant make. Would rather go down the street to eat Indian.

It seems to me that they are trying to give good service. One time mine was terrible, the next better. I spoke with the manager and he was very gentle and apologetic (indian guy) The decor is great, love the music and the food is good too (but can be a bit rough on the stomach because it is so saucy).
As for price, why do people complain so much??? As a foodie I am not wasting my money or calories on mediocre stuff, which is almost everywhere in Kunming. Just pay the price, i am sure most of what they use is not bought at carrefour or the market! you want cheap go to mcdonalds!

Good authentic Indian food. Better decoration than Indian Kitchen. No curry Korma but got crispy papadums (no sauce for papadum?). Not cheap on Kunming local scale. This restaurant has sister restaurants in Xian and Chengdu.
------------------------------
Samosa is okay and smaller than that in Indian Kitchen. Good value on samosa (5 pieces for RMB15 yuan c.f. RMB 5 yuan per piece in Indian Kitchen). Also like the curry tomato soup very much. (2008/3/30)

Although this is one of my favourite restaurants in Kunming, I find it necessary to warn the management that having a fourth floor extension has taken things one step too far (actually, about 70 steps!).
In my opinion, by extending the business, both the hard working kitchen and waiting staff are unable to maintain the original food quality and level of service.
A recent visit presented us with a luke warm fruit/mutton curry that comprised many pieces of fat and gristle, and a half tandoori chicken that had two legs (?) and not much else -- this dish would satisfy three people last year.

I am always very happy with the food here and the service is excellent. The owner is also quite a nice chap. I love the Curries, the Nan, the Rice Pudding, and the Masala Chai. The restaurant is always very clean and the seating is very comfortable.
