    • She's Got Books...She Knows How to Use Them

10 more titles on the shelves of the Book Exchange:

The Corrections (Winner of the National Book Award) by Jonathan Franzen
"A comic, tragic epic stretching from the Midwest of the mid-century to the Wall Street and Eastern Europe of today...brings an old-fashioned world of civic virtue and sexual inhibitions into violent collision with the era of home surveillance, hands-off parenting, do-it-yourself mental health care, and globalized greed."

      Kindred by Octavia E. Butler
"Dana, a modern black woman, is celebrating her twenty-sixth birthday with her new husband when she is snatched abruptly from her home in California and transported to the antebellum South. Rufus, the white son of a plantation owner, is drowning, and Dana has been summoned to save him. Dana id drawn back repeatedly through time to the slave quarters, and each time the stays grow longer, more arduous, and more dangerous until it is uncertain whether or not Dana's life will end, long before it has a chance to begin."

Opening Up: Youth Sex Culture and Market Reform in Shanghai by James Farrer
"From teen romance to televised matchmaking, from the 'fishing girls' and 'big moneys' that wander discos in search of romance to the changing shape of sex in the Chinese city, this is a book like no other...talk[ing] about sex and sexuality in Shanghai."

The Easternization of the West: A Thematic Account of Cultural Change in the Modern Era by Colin Campbell

"Has the Yogaization of the West really overtaken the McDonaldization of the East? Has a worldview associated with 'the God Within' really achieved a greater salience than one associated with 'the God of the Book'? If so, How and Why? This is a powerful, well-argued, and carefully researched historical narrative."

The Idea of India by Sunil Khilnani
"...an eloquent, persuasive argument for Nehru's improvised permeable sense of nationhood. If India loses this identity, it will be a much less attractive place to the outsider and, more importantly, to many of the people who live in it. Khilnani is dispassionate, scholarly, never sentimental. There is a crisp wit to his sentences and he is frank about his country's failings...brilliant. – Ian Jack, writer for the Observer."
